Shalikha Magura: A unique chapter of medieval Bengali literature is Chandidas Rajkini’s love story. It is believed that during the medieval period, a few Dhopa families lived along the Begvati River in Shatkhali village of Shalikha police station in Magura subdivision of Greater Jessore district. Rani Rajkini was born there and Chandidas was one of the children of the prominent Brahmanya Roy family of that village.

Rajkini used to bathe, fetch water and wash clothes in a large dohai in the courtyard of her father’s house. Seeing her, Chandidas fell in love with her. But Rajkini and her family could not reveal it for fear of strict rule. So to catch a glimpse of him, he used to sit on the opposite ghat of Doha every day before fishing. But Rajkini never looked at him. But he was not disappointed. Day after day goes by like this. After 12 years, on an auspicious occasion of Shiva Chaturdashi, Rajkini’s heart was touched by Chandidas’s feelings. Then Chandidas said, after 12 years gave a tip. Maybe catch it. This story once spread all over the place. Since then the name of that doha is Chandidas Rajkini doha. After that they went to an unknown place along the river Begvati. But their holy love story became history. Which is a unique treasure of Bengali literature.

There are many legends surrounding Doha. At present, there are fallen houses of Chandidas on the south side and Rajkini on the north side. There is a DV of a temple in the courtyard of Chandidas’s house. It will not be wrong to call this Doha with very aesthetic and pleasant environment as Kuakata of Magura. However, a land bandit has been looking down on it for a long time. As a result, they try to destroy its natural resources. If it can be brought with government support, it will become one of the tourist areas of the country. Millions of foreign tourists will come. Such is the demand of common people. 90-year-old Sanjit Sarkar, Rajkini’s next-door neighbor, said, “We have been hearing the stories here for generations. The government needs to come forward here.
